Let’s get real: there are about as many meditation benefits as there are swooning fans of Riverdale’s KJ Apa (seriously, that accent is not even fair).
But even though they are seemingly endless, let’s dig into some of the key meditation benefits especially for people who are on a spiritual or psychic development journey.
Trust me, these will have you hunting for your floor pillow as you download Headspace:
1. Connect to Your Higher Self
Did you know that there is someone who knows exactly why you’re here and what your life’s calling is? Nope, there’s not a real life Yoda. It’s your Higher Self.
And while it would be super convenient to shoot your Higher Self a Facebook message, the best way to communicate with that all-knowing part of you is through meditation.
When we meditate, we dive deep and focus in on ourselves. Because our Higher Self is the spiritual side of us, meditation brings us there by sheer definition.
2. Get Rid of Nasty Energy
This is one of the best meditation benefits ever!
Just like our houses need periodic deep cleans, so do our energy fields! Meditation is like Mrs. Meyers for our energy.
It allows us to sweep out the internal cobwebs, remove ourselves from the day to day, and refocus on what’s important.
Doing that not only kicks negative energy to the curb, it raises our vibe, which invites in a sense of peace and groundedness that no nasty energy wants to be around.
3. Achieve Better Emotional Balance
This is uber important when you are on a spiritual journey or developing your psychic abilities (again, because it keeps your vibration high).
Meditation helps wipe the slate of past experiences clean and let you see the world as it is today.
This fresh perspective promotes emotional balance and allows you to introduce your logical self to your spiritual self!
4. Increase Spiritual Health
Meditation takes us out of the overwhelm and allows us to simply observe… it pretty much forces the present on you (in a good way)!
By putting ourselves in a witness state of mind (watching rather than interacting with thoughts), we can start to come back to the present moment (also known as mindfulness), give our brain a break, and reclaim our spiritual health.
5. Increase Your Intuition
Our intuition is communication from the non-physical part of us (aka our Higher Self/soul) and our spiritual team!
It’s what tells you to not eat that hot dog from the gas station, what your mom really wants for her birthday, and that the stranger you just met is trustworthy.
Because meditation brings us closer to our Higher Self, it allows us to get more and more attuned to our intuition.

Bonus Meditation Benefit!
Another one of the fab meditation benefits is that it helps us gain better memory.
The next time you’re racking your brain to remember where you stashed your iPhone airpods (why is just ONE always gone?!), vow to increase your meditation sessions!
Yep, meditation has been linked to improving rapid memory recall.
Practicing meditation allows the brain to adjust brain waves in order to reduce distractions (kinda how Brain.FM works, if you haven’t checked it out yet!). This allows you to recall information and continue focusing on the task at hand.
Simply put, meditation is the act of bringing awareness to your thoughts, breath, and self. This allows you to remove yourself from the day-to-day chaos and recenter.
Not only is this important during psychic development, it’s critical to when leading a grounded and centered life!
How to Meditate
Obviously you want to get in on some of those aforementioned meditation benefits… so let’s dig into how to actually meditate! The good news is, there’s no right or wrong way to do it (really, I’m not just saying that).
One of my favorite ways to meditate is with a guided meditation.
It’s a really easy way to get started meditating. Plus you don’t have to think about anything, or worry that you’re doing it wrong – it’s all spelled out for you.
And of course… there’s an app for guided meditation! Actually, there are a bunch of apps for that… so don’t be afraid to try different ones.
I’m an avid user of Headspace, but Calm and Mindfulness are also great platforms.
Next:
- Sit in a comfy spot and pop your headphones in.
- Try to keep your focus solely on the guided meditation.
- If your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to the guide.
Tip: Don’t get discouraged if your mind keeps wandering- that’s totally normal at first. Meditation is like making meatballs – it gets easier every time you do it. :)

Optional meditation enhancers:
- Essential oil diffuser (try diffusing lavender, lemon, rose, or frankincense)
- Salt lamp
- Journal and pen (I highly recommend journaling after meditation!)
- Cozy pillows and blankets (meditation should be comfy)
- Meditation (mala) beads
- A personal mantra
