How to Use Meditation to Improve Your Relationship

how to use meditation to improve your relationship

On this blog, we’ve talked a lot about the benefits of meditation. It can ground you, calm you, and connect you to your soul and life purpose.

It can also drastically improve your love life. No, I’m not kidding (and now you officially have NO reason not to try it!)

In fact, one of the best things about meditation is that it connects you with your Higher Self, which gets the good vibes rolling!

Today, I’ll teach you how to improve your relationship with meditation, step-by-step so you can get started right away.

How to Use Meditation to Improve Your Relationship

As I said, meditation connects us with our Higher Self (soul); the most loving part of our being.

The more connected we are to our soul, the more peaceful we become.

This makes it easier to see the light in others and feel gratitude for them. (Super important in relationships, right?)

Here’s how I strengthened (and saved) my marriage using meditation. Scouts honor — this works!

My Story of Meditation and Marriage

After five years of marriage, I was unhappy in my relationship. My husband and I argued about our children often, and I felt tired and underappreciated.

On the flip side, he felt misunderstood and like I was always nagging him. Honestly, I was ready to give up.

About this time, a Reiki-practitioner friend told me how meditation can help us calm and center ourselves, so I decided to give it a try.

At first, it was super-hard to focus because my mind would wander. But after a few weeks, meditation became sacred to me. I loved the stillness, and how peaceful it made me feel.

Soon, these peaceful feelings spilled over into all areas of my life…

I began to embrace my spiritual awakening, which changed my perspective, and how I viewed my husband.

During this sacred awakening, I realized that all souls are inherently good and loving. And, instead of getting caught up in the ‘small stuff’, I wanted to see life through a loving lens.

So, what would happen if I focused on my husband from a soul perspective? What if I set Hollywood’s version of love and soulmates aside, and viewed him as the spiritual being that he is?

Each day, as I interacted with my husband, I made the choice to see his soul — and this perspective changed our lives.

Life-Changing Meditation

Seeing my husband from a higher perspective made me appreciate him.

I made it a point to focus on the positive things about him and let go of the little things that were not important (like his dirty dishes in the sink).

Because of this, and the stillness I felt from meditation, the arguments stopped. Soon, I even started incorporating journaling, gratitude lists, and dream boards into my meditation time.

With more peace in my heart, I fell in love with my husband again. And the more I focused on his good qualities, the more good things I saw.

Within a few months:

  • We enjoyed date nights together again.
  • I felt joy when he got home from work.
  • I sang to love songs on the radio.

Today, I can say I have been happily married for 25 years.

My husband and I are more in love than ever, and we make it a point to feel gratitude for each other each day. This strong bond has helped us through some super-challenging life events!

All of this joy started with meditation — and I want to help you improve your relationship, too!

I’ll give you some tips to get started in a minute, but first, let me explain why meditation improves relationships.

Why Meditation Improves Relationships

Meditation impacts so much of our lives because it impacts our perspective by connecting us with our Higher Self, which allows more love and peace into our heart.

It not only calms us and connects us with our soul, it also changes the way we see the world and those around us, and increases our spiritual health.

That said, here are my top tips for getting started.

Tips on Using Meditation to Improve Your Relationship

  • Start by setting aside a designated time of day to meditate. As you do, think about your partner, their soul, and what makes them THEM, not just their actions.
  • Write down 20 things you love about your partner or are grateful for. (If you need some help getting started with journaling, this beginner’s post will help.)
  • Relax and recall happy memories about you and your partner. Imagine you are reliving that happy time, and remember how wonderful you felt.
  • For 10 minutes, remember what it was like when you first met your partner. What drew you to him or her? What qualities did you fall in love with? Relive it in your mind during your meditation.

Takeaways

Meditation allows you to be mindful, and helps you become an observer of your thoughts. In just a short time, you will be mindful of your relationship thoughts.

This mindfulness will allow you to flip the script on your story — and focus on joy and beauty.

By taking a mindful, non-judgmental look at your partner, you will change more than just your relationship. You will experience a spiritual awakening that transforms the way you view the world.

Meditation benefits are vast… and who can complain with those results?
