How to Make a Dream Board in Minutes (Without Magazines)

ADream boards (also known as vision boards) are all the rage in Law of Attraction groups everywhere. And with good reason!

Hanging them on your wall or using them during meditation or journal time is extremely powerful. (And downright fun.)

Traditional dream boards are physical boards or posters that depict things you want to manifest in your life.

People include pictures of their dream homes, jobs, salaries, pets, and travel destinations.

With all the crafty people in the world, you can imagine there are some way elaborate and glamorous boards out there!

But if you’re like me and flunked the “cut in a straight line” part of Pre-K, vision boards can be a chore to put together.

So never fear!

We’re putting a 21st century spin on this and making a MODERN dream board! No cutting. No pasting.

This method is what I use because I’m not crafty and hello… who has time to print all kinds of pictures or clip them from a magazine?

How to Make a Powerful Dream Board

You may have heard of this little app called Pinterest, right?

Well, consider it your new poster boardA powerful search engine, recipe finding, hair-styling-bible poster board!

Obvi, the first thing you need to upscale your vision board efforts is a Pinterest account.

This next part depends on how far you want to go, but I like to detail EVERYTHING out because it’s such a blast. After all, it’s my future, right?!

You can do this one of two ways:

  • Create the mother of all dream boards and Pin everything you desire onto ONE Pinterest board labeled “My Dream Board.”
  • Create individual Pinterest boards (i.e. many dream boards!) This is the way I do it, because I find it much more powerful to manifest when I focus on one area at a time.

For example, I have 7 boards. On my “dream house” board, I pin all the stuff listed under it (see below). For pets, I pin a slew of pics of my favorite pets, the Ragdoll cat, etc.

Dream House

  • Exterior
  • Interior
  • Bedroom
  • View (ocean, duh)
  • Kitchen (all appliances including my dream coffee machine)
  • Balcony
  • Kids’ Rooms

Pets

  • Cats (Ragdoll blue bicolor *be still my heart*)
  • Fancy collars
  • Pet clothes
  • Accessories/pet beds

Travel

  • Luggage
  • Places (giraffe hotel in Kenya)
  • Cruises (Alaska)
  • Countries

Business

  • Blogs that inspire me
  • Income posts from other blogs
  • Pretty logos
  • Blog images
  • Color palettes
  • Metaphysical stuff that I want to write about

Toys

  • laptop/electronics
  • essential oils
  • diffusers
  • crystals
  • books
  • colored pencils/grown-up coloring books

Lifestyle

  • Hair
  • Nails
  • Dreamy outfits
  • Jewelry
  • Shoes

My Perfect Day

  • Massages
  • Food/Restaurants
  • Date nights
  • Cars (black Chevy trucks – for my husband)

I have to admit, that last one (my perfect day board) is one of my favorites and can be oh so powerful for you, too!

Imagine what your dream day is like from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed and Pin it all!

See?!

Who has time to cut all that stuff out? Not to mention you’d have to find it all first!

Pinterest is an easy, free, and limitless way to bring your dream board along with you into the 21st century.

Plus, new pins are added all the time so you can continually add to your creation.

How to Make a Traditional Vision Board

Are you the creative type that would enjoy making a hands-on, tried-and-true vision board that you can hang in your bedroom?

If so, go for it!

The traditional dream board method isn’t going away anytime soon.

If you want to make a traditional dream board:

  • Grab some magazines, and ink for your printer
  • Get a poster board or foam core board
  • Title or name your board if you want to
  • Dig in and start gluing on your photos

Tips:

  • While you’re collecting photos, remember that details are everything! For example, when you picture your dream home… What color is it? How do you want the landscaping to look? What style mailbox will you have?
  • Put more emphasis on what you’re attaching to the board rather than making it all look pretty or match.
  • You can create separate boards for all of your categories (travel, business, home) or create boards for different periods of your life. If, in the next 5 years, you want to move, get a new job, and adopt a puppy you can put that on your “5-year” board.”

Using Your Dream Board

No matter which method you choose for your vision board, using it is the most important thing!

(You didn’t think you were going to just make it and be done, did you? ;)

Personally, I curl up in my bed several nights a week with all the lights off. Then, I pop on my salt lamp and diffuser, and look at my Pinterest boards.

That ‘me’ time allows me to connect with my dreams and higher calling!

As I’m scrolling through and adding to my boards, I’m imagining myself in that life. This is key, friends!

For your dream career:

  • Imagine yourself kicking ass at the job you would love to have!
  • What hours would you work?
  • How long is your commute?
  • What kinds of people do you work with?

For your dream home:

  • Imagine how it will feel to grab coffee from that gourmet coffee machine in the kitchen overlooking your beautiful back yard… or whatever YOUR dream is!

And for your “perfect day” board:

  • Think about how that day goes… Do you get up early? Sleep late?
  • Get a massage?
  • Travel?
  • Eat out?

At the end of the day, the intention and visualization that happens when you use your dream board is far more important than the method.

As you imagine living your dreams, your energy will raise to a place of gratitude and bring those visions to fruition.

Pro Tip:

If you’re looking to add a little spice to your meditation or journal time, try adding your vision board! For example, journal about your dream day at work after spending some time on your career board, or…

Mediate on your ‘perfect day’ board and dispel all doubts and limiting beliefs about it!
