Everyone from your pet cat to Lady Gaga is born with intuition. Intuition is completely natural and is a bit different from what some people refer to as being psychic.
Intuition comes from within, from the soul.
Each and every one of us has access to intuitive guidance. When we use this guidance, it can steer us through life in a way that is inspiring, less stressful, and WAY more joyful!
At this point you may be wondering:
- If I’m born with intuition, why the heck aren’t I aware of it?
- Why don’t I feel a connection to my intuition?
- Why is it soooo hard to decipher between my thoughts and my intuition?
- Why is it hard for me to trust the intuitive guidance that I receive?
Awesome questions! And once you understand how you have become distracted from your intuitive guidance, reawakening and trusting it becomes easy!
Intuition is Natural
Have you ever noticed that children are very intuitive? That they speak freely about angels, “imaginary friends”, or seeing departed loved ones?
That they follow their bliss wherever it leads them? One minute they’re trying on dad’s shoes, and the next minute they’re jumping in a puddle.
To be a kid again – oh, so sweet!
At birth, and as young children, we remembered that we are spiritual beings. We remembered that we incarnated into these physical bodies from some fabulous non-physical energy.
In other words, we were very much aware of our soul. We KNEW that:
- We were here to have experiences, seek joy, and expand our soul
- All souls are inherently loving, gentle, and good
So what happened to all of that awesomeness?
Why does it seem like only the Kardashians are having a good time and the rest of us are struggling? What’s up with that?
Here’s what happened: Over the years, as we spent more time in our physical bodies, having physical experiences, we were taught to rely on our five physical senses. We were taught about logic, algebra, and forced to take phys-ed in high school. All good for our brains and bodies, but what about feeding our soul?
Hardly any of us were encouraged to use (let alone trust!) our sixth sense – intuition.
I don’t know about you, but there was no meditation or Namaste’s in my high school.
Here’s a story about the imaginary Joey:
Joey is three years old. One day, he walks out of his bedroom to tell his mom about the chat he was having with the “lady” in his room.
This lady is actually Joey’s Spirit Guide.
Because Joey is a little kid, he still has a strong sense of his true divine essence (soul), and could see his Guide just as clearly as he can see his own fingers and toes.
But Joey’s mom is very much present in the physical and forgets that she, herself, is a spiritual being. She was never encouraged to follow her intuitive nudges or have an awareness of her Higher Self.
So, she brushes off the lady as an “imaginary friend.”
Grown-ups encouraged you to follow their guidance instead of seeking the answers that are within you.
By the time you are in high school, you’re all mixed up. You want to study art and it calls to you, but your parents and teachers tell you that there is no future there – you won’t be able to support yourself. You listen to their logic instead of following your intuitive nudges that everything will work out.
This is how, over time, we tend to lose touch with our intuitive guidance.
But there is good news!
Your intuition never went away. You just stuck it on a shelf with last year’s summer wardrobe. All you need to do is open the closet and pull out the shorts and tanks.
Learning to Trust Your Intuition
First, remember that it is completely possible to become aware of your Inner Being and learn to use your intuitive guidance at any age.
Second, remember that intuition is completely natural. It’s the way our soul communicates with us.
If your soul has been “quiet”, here are a few tips to start reconnecting:
Meditation quiets the mind and allows you to connect with your Higher Self. It drowns out all of the outside influence and raises your vibration.
Meditation doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Something as simple as going for a nature walk, a quiet drive in the country, or fishing can put you in a relaxed state of peace.
Journaling is an excellent way to get back in touch with your Inner Being. Here are three journaling ideas to get you started:
- Gratitude. Make a list of what you are grateful for. Include the blessings you already have and the blessings that are on their way.
- Clarity. At the top of a sheet of paper, write out a question you’d like clarity on. For example, maybe you need to make a decision. Then just start writing! As you write, continue to ask yourself, “Why do I feel this way?” Keep going until you have an Aha moment.
- Perfect day exercise. Daydream and write out exactly what your perfect day would be like. Riding in a convertible with Taylor Swift? Followed by a vegan lunch and massage? Start with how it feels to wake up in the morning and what the day would entail. Go wild!
The physical part of us is just a small part of who we are. Learning to drown out the opinions of the outside world is a great first step towards reconnecting with your soul.
And when you nurture the relationship with the loving, non-physical part of you, your intuition will become more evident, and much easier to trust.
