A couple of months ago, I asked our amazing community for their best empath tips.
If you’re an empath, you know how it is…
Crying when loved ones visit on Survivor… wanting to go to bed for a week after watching the news… still being sad about that lost dog YouTube video.
Are you getting a lump in your throat just thinking about it? If you’re an empath (a.k.a., clairsentient), you likely are.
So what can you do to function without feeling overwhelmed by the emotions of others?
Actually, lots of things.
Believe me, it CAN get better and you DON’T need to go live on an island to escape your clairsentience. (Though the day my kids put 41 candles in a hot dog and lit it, that’s exactly what I wanted to do!)
Let’s get to the good stuff. Here are some great empath tips from our community:
Empath Tip #1
I pray for the opposite of whatever they are experiencing.
Whatever I feel, I thank the Most High for the opposite. So if I feel fearful, I thank the Most High for their protection and right mindedness and to strengthen [the person suffering] with their spiritual sight.
If I feel sad, I thank the Most High for laughter, peace, love, and joy.
If I feel lonely, I thank the Most High for love and peace.
Empath Tip #2
I close my eyes and concentrate on my chest where my heart is. And I think LOVE, along with the person’s name over and over until the feeling goes away.
(I LOVE this!)
Empath Tip #3
I never watch the news. Negative and sad things are like Kryptonite to me!
I used to cry and beg God to protect the children and animals day and night. And if I saw something that seemed negative, I’d about drop to my knees in pain from it!
Well, then I met Dr. Wayne Dyer, a spiritual leader. Have you heard of him? He’s been gone a year now, but his teachings have helped me a lot!
He teaches the “I am that I am” series online. You know — positive thinking? And it has really changed my life! I can’t believe how I think now compared to how I used to.
Empath Tip #4
My empath tips would be to have the Kleenex ready and the Dirty Grandpa movie to provide a few laughs.
As for the news, my Spirit Guides always seem to tell me what is going on if I ask, so I don’t watch TV that often as it drains me.
Empath Tip #5
There’s an online site that has a guidebook for empaths called Empath Support. I always wondered why I seemed to attract negative folks and the guidebook showed me that I’m easily sucked into their drama and manipulations.

I’ve written several articles with the tips I’ve used to manage being an empath. Here are two reader favorites:
